What does this measure?
Each sector's share of regional employment, as a percentage of total employment in the region.
Why is this important?
The share of employment for a given sector is an indicator on the sector's contribution to the regional economy. The spectrum of sectors also gives insight into the diverse landscape of the regional workforce and economy.
How is our region performing?
TThe Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector had the largest share of regional employment at 16% in 2017, with Professional and Business Services and Health Care and Social Assistance each at 13%. From 2001 to 2017, Manufacturing had the greatest share decrease in the region by far - all other sector losses (Agriculture, Government, Information and Construction) were less than 1-point over the same timeframe.
