What does this measure?

The amount of installed solar capacity in megawatts in a region in a year (reflecting new installations each year).

Why is this important?

Solar energy is an essential part of the clean energy generation mixture. Financial support from the state and federal governments, mainly in the form of tax credits, have dramatically increased solar installation throughout the state in recent years.

How is our region performing?

In 2022, 122.8 megawatts of solar capacity were installed in our region, up from 3.9 megawatts in 2013. In 2022, our region accounted for 14% of all statewide capacity installed. Monroe County leads the region for 2022 installations, with 38.3 megawatts installed. Livingston was a close second, with 35.7 megawatts installed. Orleans and Seneca County had the lowest capacity installed in 2022, both at 0.2 megawatts.

The data includes all projects smaller than 5MW AC, including those without state funding.
