What does this measure?

Each sector's share of regional employment, as a percentage of total employment in the region.

Why is this important?

The share of employment for a given sector is an indicator on the sector's contribution to the regional economy. The spectrum of sectors also gives insight into the diverse landscape of the regional workforce and economy.

How is our region performing?

The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector had the largest share of regional employment at 16% in 2018, with Professional and Business Services and Health Care and Social Assistance each at 13%. From 2001 to 2018, Manufacturing sector shares had the greatest decline in the region at 6 percentage points. Education, Professional and Business Services, and Leisure and Hospitality all gained 1.5 points over the same time period.
